Hi Kari,
I’m from Australia and will be travelling to the USA in Jan 2014 – I am in my 40′s and will be on my own and looking to join in a women’s minimum 4 day camp.
I am an ok skier – not great with speed or trees! – but I would love to improve my skiing, have some fun and maybe make some friends.
I realise I am a bit early but wondered if you knew of any ski camps in Jan 2014 as I’m looking to book flights soon. At this point I’m not tied into any resort – so am open to suggestions!
Thanks in advance for any help.
Kirstie
Hi Kirstie!
It sounds like you’re planning a fantastic vacation. Most resorts announce the clinic dates for next season in late September or October. Aspen/Snowmass regularly holds a 4 day Women’s ski camp. Last year, the four day program started each Monday through Thursday from January 7th through March 18th. It’s a popular program, so I assume they would continue the same format next year. http://www.aspensnowmass.com/ski-and-snowboard-schools/multi-day-specialty-programs/womens-edge
Good luck with your planning!
Thanks!
~Kari
For women who already ski/snowboard (int to adv) but want to progress their freestyle skills a bit, I highly recommend Oakley Progression Sessions which is a two day on-snow progression camp. I actually just participated in the Mammoth stop this past weekend as as snowboarder and had the time of my life there. I was afraid I was going to be the oldest “camper” there at 31, but to my surprise there were many women older than me. The professional coaches and other participants provided such a positive learning environment. We had breakfast + lunches provided, yoga every morning, supportive coaches and not to mention we received a bunch of Oakley goodies (custom goggles, sunglasses, headbands, Paradigm earplugs + more).
2013′s locations: Squaw Valley (3/2-3), Mammoth (3/16-17), Tremblant (3/23-24), and Loon (3/30-31).
Here’s the website if anyone wants to find more information: http://www.oakleyprogressionsessions.com
Hi Shari,
Thanks for the great review and recommendation for ladies already at the intermediate/advanced levels who want to improve and progress their freestyle skills. I am glad your experience at the Oakley Progression Session was so positive and rewarding.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Kari,
I could have copied and pasted Yvette’s note above! I read your replies to her and will be doing research. I would love to find out if she has also done any research and has anything to share. Will she see this comment? Is there a way for me to email her? I am currently SO frustrated, having just finished a week of skiing with my husband and sons and unable to keep up.
Thank you,
Susan
p.s. I see that there is a women’s clinic at Snowmass. I love Snowmass (don’t all of we “terminally intermediate” skiers?!). Do you know anything about that clinic?
Thanx
Hi Susan,
I’ve heard the Aspen/Snowmass clinics are great. Since breaking out of the intermediate level is such a common goal, you’ll find most clinics offer the tools for woman to reach the next level.
I hope you find the perfect clinic for you! Please let us know what you choose!
~Thanks!
Kari
Of course I’m watching the slope series and trying to find a snowboard clinic on the east coast where I can learn some sweet tricks! A woman’s clinic would be preferred but I would love to just get out there and learn how to take on some of those massive jumps effectively.

Hi Kari,
Thank you for including me in your list of Women’s clinics. I’ve been at this for 25 years and it’s challenging to provide a product that is different than the rest. I guess what sets me apart is that Women’s Ski Adventures is my business. I don’t work for a ski school or a ski manufacturer. The quality of my product is a direct reflection on me. My goal is to have each and every client walk away saying “that was the best ski vacation I have ever had”. I love what I do and get so much back from sharing my passion and knowledge with other skiers.
Thanks again for all your hard work putting this list together and including Ski with Kim.

Hi Kari,
This is an amazing list of clinics, thank you for posting them! SheRide Snowboard Camp is hosting two camps this season too. Learn to snowboard or dramatically improve your riding in a safe, FUN, confidence building environment with professional encouraging coaches.

Thank You!

Hi Beka,
Thank you! I added your information. The SheRide Snowboarding Camps look fantastic!
Thanks! ~Kari
Hi Kari,
What a great site! A year or two back, there was an article in one of the skiing or boarding publications about a snowboard camp for “The Woman Who Wasn’t Born yesterday”. This was great news for my ski buddies and me & we decided this would be our season to learn. Problem is, I can’t find the article and nothing comes up in my searches for camps specifically for older women. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Annie
Hi Annie,
Thanks for looking at my website. Skiing with friends is always a blast!
Unfortunately, I didn’t find the article either. There are some clinics you may be interested in such as Tahoe’s Mt Rose Silver Ski program or the Buttermilk Senior Camp at Aspen/Snowmass.
Another suggestion is to gather a group of buddies and take a private lesson together. While a private lesson can be expensive, some ski resorts let you have up to 5 friends in a private lesson for the same price as it would cost for only 1 person with an instructor. So, if you split the private lesson rate with your friends, you can enjoy a more affordable and fun way to improve your skiing.
I hope you and your friends get out on the slopes, learn some new skills and have a great time!
~Kari
I can vouch for Jackson Hole’s women’s camp. I attended last year and LOVED IT! I’d go back except I have work conflicts this year: rats! The group size is extremely small, the coaches are very good, and the camp is run smoothly and all campers have to worry about is skiing, learning, and having fun. It’s not cheap, but it’s definitely worth it.
Hi Nancy!
Thanks for the great feedback & have a great winter.
~Kari
Hi Kari,
Just wanted to thank you for pulling this site together. I just worked with my friend to pick a ski clinic, and your list made the job really easy to compare the ones that are nearby to us.
You mentioned to let you know if anything was missing – I had originally found a clinic called “Her Turn” that is in Vail and possibly some other locations this year and didn’t see it on your list. You may want to search on that and add it.
Thanks,

Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for looking at my site. I am so glad it helped you find a clinic. I am adding some of the “Her Turn” clinics, so thank you very much for mentioning them.
If you get a chance, let me and readers know about your clinic experience. Enjoy it and have a fantastic winter.
Thanks again!

This is a great list which shows what fits in with my schedule and level. I would love to see you add $$ categories so I can then further identify what meets my criteria. Some are very reasonable and some are REALLY expensive.
Hi Margaret,
Thanks for looking at my website, and I really appreciate your suggestion! The prices from camp to camp vary. When pricing a camp, it’s also important to consider variables such as location, whether lift tickets are included, number of days, instructor to student ratio, quality of program and of certified and experienced instructors, video taping and analysis, rentals and extras such as meals and goodies provided. I like your idea of $$ categories, and I will look into adding them in the future while also considering the various variables that distinguish one camp from the next.
I hope you find a camp that best fits your needs! Please let me know which camp you choose and any feedback you may have. Have a great winter!
~Thanks!

I am interested in attending a clinic in order to move away from “terminal intermediate status.” Although I’ve skied since I was a teenager, my husband says I still can’t carve a turn! both my sons and my husband are phenomenal skiers and if I want to enjoy skiing with them, I really need to step up my skill level!!
Ideally, I would like to attend a clinic with similarly situated women and, women in their early 50′s. Can you recommend some clinics that might fit this criteria?
Hi Yvette,
There are many camps that will help you break out of that “terminal intermediate status”. I think your current level and goal is a very common one. Usually the ages vary in the programs, yet I think you will find a clinic with “similarly situated” women like you are seeking. Popular clinics break participants into groups with skiers of similar levels and goals. I also recommend calling ahead and finding out more about the ages and levels of the current participants registered in advance or requesting in advance your desire to be in a group of participants with similar goals and in your age category.
I’ve heard positive recommendations about the following clinics, which incorporate video taping, analysis and instruction to help you break into the next level; however, there are plenty of other clinics I have listed that are also great.
I recommend the Women’s Ski Camp at Jackson Hole. The camp is very popular and gets repeat business. The terrain and conditions are varied and can be challenging at Jackson Hole, which will help push you to become a better skier. You’ll receive 4 days of instructions, video taping, analysis and fun.
I’ve received position recommendations on camps with Kim Reichhelm. Her camps are held in various locations this winter. Her clinics and instructors also focus on video taping and analysis and with four days, you’ll receive plenty of time to break through to that next level and to share experiences with fellow women of similar abilities.
While there are a few clinics geared for women over 50, I think that you will find other woman of your age and with your goals in mind in any popular camp.
If you have any more questions, please let me know. I look forward to hearing which camp you choose.
~Thanks!

Hi Yvette,
I wanted to let you know my Women’s Ski Adventures might suit your needs. I am 52 and have been hosting these women’s only camps for 25 years. The average age of my group is around 50, so you will be in good company. I’ll be in Aspen, Vail and Crested Butte this winter. I promise to get you out of your Terminal intermediate status and on your way to carving. I can’t guarantee you’ll be able to keep up with the men in your life but I’ll teach you to ski all the same terrain with confidence.

interested in women’s ski adventure. have a lovely group of women who ski together each year. we range from intermediate to advanced. The February 24-26 weekend works. and we like the concept of the vail clinic last year the similar weekend.

Cheryl
Hi Cheryl! I will keep your group in mind! Check back because more clinics and camps will be added. Thanks ~ Kari
Hi Cheryl,
It was great to see your name in this site and request for a women’s clinic in February. I have a group in Crested Butte February 26 – March 1st. It’s not exactly your dates but it’s close. I would really like to ski with you again, since our Alaska trip wasn’t really skiing. I know that you were disappointed in that trip but I loved spending time with you and your family and hope I can make it up to you on another trip. Contact me and we can discuss what I can do to make it work for you.
Best wishes,
Kim

Kari,
That’s a wonderful list of women’s ski clinics and programs. I want to suggest another site – Ski with Kim. Kim Reichhelm (an excellent teacher and world champion skier) hosts women’s ski clinics at three resorts in Colorado; Aspen, Vail and Crested Butte throughout the winter months. The clinics are pretty good, including all accommodations, food and top notch instruction.
I’m not sure if she is hosting anymore women’s ski clinics this winter/spring but surely next winter. You’d have to check her schedule.

Hi Danielle,
Thank you for the great information! I will add Kim Reichhelm’s ski clinics for women to my website next winter. Her clinics and programs look amazing! Her schedule also includes upcoming co-ed clinics in both Alaska and Chile.
Thanks!

Thanks Danielle.

I am a senior & so glad to find this information-
Better late than never!
For sure I’d go in 2012 but …perhaps in May-if any
Do U know of any in May-probably in or arund
Mammoth! For powder skiing!
Hi Jacqueline,
If you want something in May, I would suggest a backcountry ski clinic for powder skiing. Sierra Mountain Center http://www.sierramountaincenter.com/index.html offers many guided tours along with California Alpine Guides http://www.californiaalpineguides.com/ .
Very few ski resorts are open in May. For those that remain open, such as Mammoth, the ski school programs have usually ended for the season.
I hope you find a great clinic or backcountry tour to join!
Thanks ~ Kari
